Is Mango Skin as Poisonous as Poison Ivy

Did you know mangoes belong to the same plant family as poison ivy and that the skin of a mango can give you that same great contact dermatitis as if you played with poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac? If you have contact dermatitis from poison ivy or one of the other urushiol-containing plants (Toxicodendron species), exposure to the cut skin of a mango can be a highly unpleasant experience. How Urushiol Causes Dermatitis Urushiol is an oleoresin found in plant sap that protects the plant from injury. If the plant is damaged, the sap leaks to the surface where it reacts with oxygen in air to form a black-colored lacquer. Urushiol is actually the name of a group of related compounds. Each compound contains a catechol substituted with an alkyl chain. Whether an allergic reaction to the compound occurs and its severity is related to the degree of saturation of the alkyl chain. More saturated chains produce minimal to no reaction. If at least two double bonds are present in the chain, about 90% of the population suffers a reaction. Urushiol is absorbed into skin or mucosa (e.g., mouth, eyes), where it reacts with Langerhan cells of the immune system. Urushiol acts as a hapten, causing a type IV hypersensitivity reaction, characterized by cytokine production and cytotoxic skin damage. This type of induced immune response is faster and stronger if a person has already been sensitized to it. Its possible to touch and eat mangoes without experiencing a problem for some time and then suffer a reaction upon a subsequent exposure.   How to Prevent Mango Contact Dermatitis Obviously people eat mangoes all the time. The edible portion isnt likely to cause a problem. However, the vine of a mango contains sufficient urushiol to cause a reaction that rivals or exceeds that from poison ivy. The skin of the mango contains enough urushiol that if you are already sensitized to it, you will probably get contact dermatitis from exposure, usually on your hands, since most people dont bite into mangoes. To prevent a reaction with mangoes, avoid handling them if youve ever had a reaction to poison ivy. Subsequent exposure in sensitive individuals worsens the reaction. If you live or vacation in an area where mango trees grow, avoid picking them or standing near the plant. Sap that may drip from the plant contains urushiol.When shopping for mango at the store, use a plastic produce bag to pick up the fruit. At home, wear gloves or use the bag as protection to handle and peel the fruit. Mango skin is tough, so the safest route is to use a vegetable peeler. Otherwise a sharp knife will work. However, its easier to simply cut a slice of mango, cut into the fruit, and bend the rind back hedgehog style. Because less peel is damaged, chemical exposure is minimized.If you handle a mango, immediately wash your hands with soap and water. Washing removes the oily compound. In this book, the core themes of conformity, apathy, stagnancy and censorship are revealed in many forms. Beatty and Mildred, together are symbols of the authoritarian system, living vapid and meaningless lives that they are unable to escape. Initially, Montag is also trapped in the scheme, although his thoughts still yearn for knowledge (Bradbury). He is thoroughly fascinated by Clarisse, a sign of unconventionality and freethinking and a total dissimilarity to Mildred; she dares him to reflect on his life to give it some additional meaning. He rejects the natural life of conformity, indifference, stagnancy, and suppression demanded by culture. To achieve this, he starts thinking independently, seeking to understand, stealing, hiding and reading books. The result of this was that of hating his job, confronting his wife’s insignificance, and finally killing Beatty (Bradbury). In summary, the whole writing of Fahrenheit 451 serves as a dissertation in theme. The author of the text focuses on what impact seeing life and death can have on a child’s mind. The meeting with life and death is seen as a contributor to gaining adulthood. The author portrays a boy’s development as resulting from a strong experience. The short story is structured as a fairy tale with a home-out-home structure. With that is meant that he starts in a comfortable place and then goes on a journey and then returns. In the text the comfortable place is the boat and the journey is to the island were the Indians live. In that way Nick starts out as one person, and after the journey learns something that makes him a different person. In a way the structure underlines the theme, because it helps you focusing on the change. The boy named Nick starts his development toward adulthood in the text. He begins as a fragile boy who depends on his father and ends up as an independent and confident young man. The transition can be seen in many differences in Nick in the start and the ending of the text. In the beginning he relies on the support of his father where in the end he is fine by himself. â€Å"Nick lay back with his father’s arm around him. †¦. â€Å"They were seated in the boat. Nick in the stern, his father rowing† In the short story Nick comes to terms with the circle of life. He experiences both life and death, which makes him grow up. To understand life you need to have seen death. In addition to that, Nick also gets the picture of civilisation dominating nature. That is sho wn through the father who actually changes the course of two persons’ lives. The Indian woman and the unborn child would have died if it had not been for his father. Therefore his father acquires a godlike status, which leads to the ambiguous ending: He felt quite sure that he would never die† It is not clear whether â€Å"he† refers to Nick or to the father. It might be both of them, assuming that Nick has understood how you can dominate nature. As previously mentioned, the ending reveals some changes between before and after the experience. The ending shows that Nick develops an understanding of life and death. A difference in the environment is that they arrive in the evening and return in the morning. It can be interpreted as if the evening represents the ending of his childhood and the morning the start of his adulthood. Also, the night is related to nature, and with that the events in the Indian camp. When the sun rises and the light breaks through they return to civilisation. In that way civilisation is linked to light. The night and day theme underlines the change from a naive boy’s lack of understanding to a young man coming to terms with the basics of life and civilisation. In addition, we see a change in the environment. It starts off as gloomy and finishes as something harmonious. â€Å"The two boats started off in the dark. Nick heard the oarlocks of the other boat quite a way ahead of them in the mist. †¦. â€Å" The sun was coming up over the hills. A bass jumped, making a circle in the water. † The change in the environment is an indicator of what lies ahead. The evening environment symbolises death and the unknown. The morning represents an entrance to adulthood. The bass making a circle in the water is a symbol of the circle of life. Nick sees the circle in the end of the text, and that is sign of him now having seen and possibly understood life and death. â€Å"A bass jumped, making a circle in the water. † The circle of life is depicted in two ways. On the one hand, the baby’s birth and the dad’s death form parts of the circle of life. When someone is born somebody else dies. On the other hand we see that when the baby enters the world, and with that the early stages of life, Nick leaves the early stages of life. This means that the circle also says that when somebody enters a new stage of life somebody else leaves it, exemplified by the new-born baby and Nick. The short story is set among the â€Å"savages†, which is a perfect place to understand the natural order of life. It takes place in an Indian village and in that way shows nature as pure as it is. The transition from boy to man, and with that the understanding of life, has to be seen in an environment that underlines the basic conditions of life. With that the author actually says that to understand how nature functions you have to leave the normal civilised life. To sum up, the author manages to describe the transition from boy to man as a result of meeting the circle of life. The leaders play a major role in the organization, as they facilitate in bringing new ideas into the business. With the involvement of the new ideas and the opportunities, the business obtains competitive advantages. Nowadays, most of the leaders in the organization focus on providing unique business ideas and strategies for gaining the competitive advantages (Alvesson 2012). The leaders need to focus on executing the allocated task through the engagement of the workforce diversity. Leaders must communicate the vision of the business to the employees. Moreover, the leaders are responsible for the development of the strategy in the business. In many cases, the leaders must make a decision for the improvement of the business with the facilitation of the employees engaged in the business for a long duration. Hence, the leaders need to follow the discussed process in order execute the business through innovative strategic approaches. Managers provide an adequate contribution to the organization in order to the enhancement of the business. By discussing the roles and responsibilities of the managers, it can be assessed that managers need to take various responsibilities including staffing, communication, training and the business growth (Alvesson and Sveningsson 2015). The businesss culture should allow the employees in sharing their individual thoughts or the suggestions about the improvement of the business. Without engaging the employees in the strategy discussion, the managers would not be able to identify the effective solution for executing the business in an innovative way. Hence, the managers need to be inclining towards the democratic culture in the business. The human resource management is the most integral part of the organization, as it is responsible for executing different tasks including recruitment, safety, compensation and benefits, employee relation, compliance and training and development. For upholding an effective and diversified culture into the business, the human resource management needs to identify the key development areas of the business. The effective communication with the staffs or employees would provide adequate opportunities to the human resource management in identifying the difficulties in the working process (Shahzad et al. 2012). Sometimes, the HR managers fail to provide the benefits and recognitions to the employees in the organization due to the lack of monitoring process. Hence, the management needs to implement a monitoring system for reducing such issues in an efficient manner. Topic B: Design Thinking Task: Building toolkit for Design Thinking. Design thinking is a cognitive activity for the designers to apply in the designing process. With the involvement of the design thinking process, people indeed identify their creative mind in solving a particular issue (Brown and Wyatt 2015). In this context, most of the students in the University get confused to express their creative ideas in the classroom. Consequently, it prevents them in evaluating their creative mindset in an efficient manner. For implementing the design thinking process into the classroom, the professor must focus on providing the adequate space of possibilities to the students. Without experiencing the space of possibilities, the students may not be able to express their creative thinking to the professors. However, it can be a challenging task for the management to transit a traditional classroom into a space of possibilities. Besides this, the management of the university needs to allocate a certain timeframe, where the students can express their individual thoughts on the subjects. Moreover, the design thinking process must include the effective communication process. Without involving the students in the discussion session, the professors or the teacher would not be able to identify their innovative thinking towards solving a particular issue. In every step of the design thinking, the professors must follow the proper process to engage students in sharing their individual thoughts and ideas effectively. On the other hand, for providing the space of possibilities to the students in the universities, the management must follow a particular method (Johansson?Skldberg, Woodilla and etinkaya 2013). For example, the management could allocate a particular timeline for the students, where they could express their ideas in an efficient manner. Besides this, students must be provided the group discussion session, so that they could express their innovative approaches to the professors. However, the students must be provided adequate guidance for identifying the particular innovative strategies. Without having the guidance, the students may not be able to identify their potentiality in an efficient manner (Razzouk and Shute 2012). Hence, it can be assessed that the particular process would be able to facilitate students in expressing their innovative ideas on a particular subject to the professors. For solving this particular problem, the initiative needs to be taken by the management of the University. The management of the organization needs to implement a unique process for facilitating students in sharing their individual ideas on a particular subject. For delivering an extra space to the students, the management needs to conduct a discussion to identify the possible challenges and opportunities of the process (Meinel and Leifer 2012). With the involvement of such process, students would be able to enhance their creativity in an effectual manner. Aside from this, the professors of the university also need to develop effective communication so that the students get influenced for sharing their important thoughts in an effectual manner. In some cases, we have seen that the students are not provided the adequate opportunities to take on their points on a particular subject at the classrooms. Consequently, it damages the creative mind of the students. Topic C: Thinking Style Task: Do all people think alike? Cognitive style or the thinking style describes the process of thinking individually. Sternberg and Zhang (2014) have identified the fact that the thinking has its own psychological and biological explanations. It has been seen that the great people do not think alike, as they try to innovate something in an efficient manner. Through the involvement of the intelligent test, the cognitive style or the thinking style of people can be identified in an effectual manner (Lang et al. 2012). By analyzing the most insightful understanding of the cognitive style or the thinking style, it can be assessed that the particular process depends on the perception of the individuality. The thinking style identifies the process of acquiring knowledge, organize thought, develop different views and opinions, decision making ability, etc. There are a different form of thinking style including synthesis, idealists, pragmatist thinker, analyst thinkers and realize thinkers. For understanding the cognitive style, one must have acquired the knowledge of discussed thinking styles. If people think in the same way unlike the discussed different thinking styles, the management could be able to reduce the challenges in business by providing one solution. By analyzing the adoption and innovation theory, it can be assessed that the particular process upholds a ratio between these two variables. With the involvement of the adoption-innovation theory, I could easily change my ideas according to the process. If the innovation is not profitable, then it would not be adopted in the business. Hence, the analyzing process of innovation would facilitate the individual in understanding the adoption method (Parkay, Anctil and Hass 2014). On the other hand, there are several processes for managing people in the workplace. For managing my contribution at the workplace along with other people, I would focus on identifying the impact of the contribution. If I could deliver high value to the business, then the management would recognize that particular contribution. Hence, I could be able to motivate my colleagues in delivering high performance in the business so that they could be identified by the management for their individual contribution. This particular thing would motivate the employees in enhancing their individual performance in an efficient manner. In many cases, we have seen that the cognitive diversity has been badly managed. In the recent years, most of the organizations face challenges in managing the employee turnover issue. For example, the supermarket industry focuses on autocratic leadership, which does not allow the organization in upholding the cognitive diversity in the business. Consequently, we have seen that the supermarket industry has been facing the employee turnover issues in a larger aspect compared to the other industry. By preventing the cognitive diversity in the business, the management would not be able to accumulate the unique and innovative from the employees in order to improve the business outcomes. On the other hand, the cognitive diversity also facilitates the organization in getting triumph over its rival in the large marketplace. Topic D: Brainstorming Task: Brainstorming If I have to discuss my challenge in the organization, where I have been working for long timeline, then I would like to highlight different de-motivating factors of the business. For instance, the prime issue is that the lack of work-life balance. The work-life balance is one of the major aspects of the business that facilitates in enhancing the productivity of the business (Abdi 2012). In the recent years, most of the industries face challenges in retaining the growth of the business due to the lack of productivity. Most of the business analysts have agreed with the fact that the lack of work-life balance often creates challenges for the employees in retaining their enhanced performance in the organization. Hence, it not only affects the mind of the employees but also create a challenging situation for the management to uphold the profit margin of the business. For engaging the people in my problem, I need to clarify the entire subject. Most of the people get confused with different ideas and suggestions. Hence, I need to focus on identifying the issues properly to the employees in the organization. Moreover, I need to make other people realize about the drawbacks of the improper work life balance at the workplace. Hence, I would like to take some strategic actions in order to reduce this particular problem in an efficient manner. For highlighting this particular issue, I would like to engage some employees in the organization. Firstly, I would engage the people in the process of analyzing the individual performance. By following this particular process, employees would be able to identify their performance graph in an efficient manner (Gallagher 2013). On the other hand, the monitoring system would facilitate the people to understand the impact of the work life balance on employees performance. A brainstorming session is one of the integral parts of the business for identifying the new and innovative strategic approaches (Kalelioglu and Glbahar 2014). In the brainstorming session, I would request every employee to highlight the impact of work like balance. Moreover, the employees would be asked to provide their individual ideas for reducing such serious issue out of business (Boddy 2012). For diminishing the lack of work-life balance, I would request employees to provide their valuable suggestions. For example, strategies like splitting working hours, reduce the workload, employ more employees would be the best-fit solutions for trimming down the particular issue in an efficient manner (Wilson 2013).
